The GTS exhibition booth in a new guise

Open, informative, inviting – and an eye-catcher it should become, the newly designed GTS trade fair booth. And as the many positive voices at the Hannover Messe 2019 confirm, this was a complete success. In Hannover, integrated into the SurfaceTechnology Area, the completely new GTS joint booth was used for the first time. The circumferential upper boundary of the previous booth system gave way to a large-area Brand Wall with a motif showing thermal spraying in action, thus attracting the attention of trade fair visitors from afar. The open design offers more space for consultation and discussions and at the same time provides sufficient space to present thermal spraying in all its diversity.

The GTS joint booth presented itself in a new guise at the Hannover Messe 2019 and was very well received by GTS members and booth visitors. A touch-screen display, exhibits and posters show the diversity of thermal spraying.

The previous booth was used successfully for almost 20 years. But even before that, it had been an important aim of GTS to represent its members in public and to make thermal spray technology and its possibilities known to a broad public. So as early as 1993, the first year of its existence, GTS was represented at a trade fair with its own booth. At that time it was the Oftech in Essen. In the following years several international trade fair appearances with rented booth or display systems and posters followed, until finally the idea of an own booth was presented and decided at the Annual General Meeting in 1999. After intensive planning work by the GTS booth committee, GTS’s own booth was used for the first time at Schweissen & Schneiden in September 2001.

Over the years that followed, it was mainly the booth fittings which were changed. Many visitors to the fair may still remember the “globe”, an exhibit rack with a rotating and illuminated sphere showing the logos of the members. In the meantime, this exhibit rack has been replaced by a touch-screen display on which thermal spraying and GTS are presented using animations
and videos.

The touch-screen display has of course been integrated into the new booth, as well as the glass showcases with the many application examples for thermally sprayed coatings provided by GTS members. The trade fair posters are also still available showing the diverse range of thermal spray applications in various areas of industry.

Thus, the brand-new design of the GTS booth could be seen for the first time at the Hannover Messe 2019. In contrast to the trade fairs and conferences specifically for surface technology, there were many contacts in Hannover that had never encoutered thermal spraying before. With the support of 18 experts from the GTS member companies, extensive work was carried out to heighten TS awareness during the five days of the fair.

But there were also many discussions and enquiries on specific topics, partly on applications that are state of the art and easy to implement, but partly on problems for which some further work is still required to convince people of the benefits of thermal spraying. Interesting topics such as ultra-thin coatings, the coating of electrodes with special alloys or the increase in friction coefficient in spring-applied brakes were also discussed. As usual, the list of these topics with the respective trade fair contacts was made available to the GTS members and some of them have already been acted upon.

GTS’s next trade fair appearance is planned – as usual – at the Hannover Messe from 20 to 24 April 2020. In addition, next year the ITSC will again visit Europe and of course GTS will also be present in Vienna. Preparations have already begun for Schweissen & Schneiden 2021 as well. GTS will again be represented there with its special booth. We look forward to seeing you all there.

Finally, we would like to thank member companies for their support. Due to their consultants onsite, they, of course, enjoyed the first contact with customer. GTS would also like to thank KVT Kurlbaum GmbH for the motif on the trade fair wall.
