Peter Richter jun.
At the age of 40, Peter Richter jun. left us much too early. He
passed away on 3 February 2024. With Impact Innovations GmbH, which he co-founded and which became a member of GTS in 2016, he has set
new standards for cold spraying technology.

We mourn the loss of
Dr. Richard Schmid
Dr Richard Schmid left us on 3 November 2023 after several months of illness. During his career as CTO at Sulzer Metco, now Oerlikon Metco, Richard Schmid led the company to a leading position in the field of coating technology. As the contact person for the Oerlikon Metco
member companies in the GTS, he supported our association for many years.
Dr Richard Schmid died at the age of 61.

We mourn the loss of
Dr. Steffen Marx
As a long-standing project manager and later product manager at GTS member AMG
TITANIUM / GfE Fremat GmbH, Dr Steffen Marx had long been associated with
surface technology and was valued by GTS members as an expert.
He passed away on 25 April 2023 at the age of just 57.

We mourn the loss of
Stefan Kill
After fighting a long-term illness, Stefan Kill sadly left
us on 24 February 2023. GTS members and the global
thermal spray sector knew Stefan Kill as the long-standing
managing director of GTV Verschleißschutz GmbH and
valued him as an expert in the field of this surface technology.
Stefan Kill was only 59 years of age. We extend
our sincere condolences to his family and all his relatives
and friends.

Dr.-Ing.
Oliver Brandt
Much too early, at the age of only 60, our long-standing member Dr.-Ing. Oliver
Brandt left us on 21 December 2022. With his company Becon Technologies GmbH
based in Thun, Switzerland, he had been a member of GTS since 1999.
Oliver Brandt was valued as a consultant in the field of thermal spraying for
his extraordinary expertise and leaves a big gap there as well as with his
family and friends.

who passed away on 1 March 2022. Rolf Menzen was a
partner and managing director of IBEDA, the company with
which he joined GTS in 2005.

We mourn the loss of
S. C. Modi
Mr S. C. Modi was the managing director of Metallizing Equipment Company in
India, which became a member of GTS in 2012. Mr Modi was actively involved in
thermal spray technology for almost 50 years and was regarded by his colleagues
as a pioneer of thermal spraying in India. S. C. Modi passed away on 28 May
2021. We express our sincere condolences to his family and will continue to hold
him in very high esteem.

Dr Gerd Kraume
For many years, Dr Gerd Kraume was the general manager of
the German Welding Society (DVS) in the field of education
and technology as well as the chairman of the Committee
for Technology (AfT).

Knut W. Weber
Knut W. Weber belonged to the GTS founding committee
which laid the foundations for our association in 1991.
He, along with his company LWK-PlasmaCeramic GmbH
in Wiehl, was also a GTS founding member in 1992 and
our contact person for many years to come.
On 6 January 2021, Knut W. Weber left us forever. We extend our sincere thanks
to him for his services to GTS and will always remember him.

Dr. Hartwig Reimann
On 29 May 2018, Hartwig Reimann passed away at the age of 74 after severe
illness.
For 14 years, he was our president, and he was a founding member and patron of
GTS e.V. As one of the pioneers of high velocity oxy-fuel flame spraying,
Hartwig Reimann was also actively involved in the first HVOF Colloquium
With the death of Dr Hartwig Reimann, we have lost a respected colleague who was
known for his astuteness and forthrightness. He could also be critical and
awkward when he came across mistakes, but was always ready to help and give
advice, too.

Peter Heinrich
After a long period of illness, yet nevertheless unexpected, Peter Heinrich passed away
on 25 October 2017.
Most of you will have known him as a passionate supporter of thermal spraying, as a founding member of our association and longstanding member of its Executive Board - as the “driving force” behind GTS. For many of you who were also good friends with Peter Heinrich, his passing away is a very sad and personal loss.

Bernard (Ben)
J.H. Drost
Bernard Drost passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness only a few days
after his
80th birthday on the 27th of June 2015.
Bernard was General Manager for Metco Nederland and Metco Belgium and became
European Marketing Manager for Perkin Elmer Metco (PEM) in Hattersheim in 1985.
He was the last President of PEM (Europe) before it was taken over by Sulzer.
He was a true gentleman, upright, and a fine colleague and boss.

After bravely enduring his serious illness, Prof Joachim Heberlein passed away
on
17 February 2014. With his outstanding technical expertise, his friendly and
open
manner and his great willingness to help, Prof Heberlein was, for many, many
years,
an excellent academic teacher and an internationally respected researcher in the
field
of plasma and arc spraying. He was a driving force behind the joint activities
of the
European and American thermal spray community. With his passing, GTS and
thermal spray technology have lost one of their most distinguished scholars.

Richard Moore died unexpectedly on 20 June 2013. A longterm staff member of
United Surface Technologies (UST) in Australia, Richard Moore was very active

On 28 June 2012, Siem Verboon passed away after a long period of illness. Siem
Verboon
was a member of the Dutch Association for Thermal Spray Technology VTS for more

Siem Verboon was also a member of the Association of Thermal Sprayers since VTS

Helmut Strauss
After a long and severe illness, Helmut Strauss died on 5 June 2012. Up until a
few months
ago, he had still actively worked at Mogul Metallizing GmbH and Interweld
Austria GmbH,
and due to his many years of experience and his profound knowledge of thermal
spraying
and PTA welding was esteemed as a grey eminence. His many experiences with
specialized
thermal spray applications have been lost with his passing away.

Fritz Alps
On 29 October 2011, Dipl.-Ing. Fritz Alps passed away at the age of 67 after a
period of
long illness. As the General Manager of Wilhelm Schmidt GmbH in Groß-Kienitz,
and
a GTS member since 1993, Fritz Alps was a contact person and furtherer of our
Association of Thermal Sprayers, GTS e.V. for many, many years.
As the co-organizer and sponsor of the first golf tournament, the GTS Open, in
2000 and
subsequent tournaments as well, Fritz Alps greatly contributed to the success
and
continuance of this very popular social highlight in the GTS family.

Gerard Barbezat
On 17 June 2011, Gerard Barbezat, retired materials engineer at Sulzer Metco,
died at
the age of 67. Not only Switzerland has lost a thermal spray expert, who was
widely
known across regional borders. More than 100 scientific publications, numerous
patents
and countless technical presentations, mostly before an international audience,
testify
to his enormous creativity and excellent reputation.
The news that Gerard Barbezat had passed away was a great shock for GTS members
and
all those who knew him. Even when a situation became difficult for him, the
values he
practised always helped him to stay on track. We say farewell to Gerard
Barbezat, an
impressive personality, a man with multifaceted talents who had an extremely
comprehensive knowledge of materials, casting and thermal spraying.

I was devastated by the news of your death. With your passing, I have lost a
good friend
whom I will always respect and look up to.
Your amiable and conciliatory, yet single-minded and convincing manner won you a
